Again, OAU students block Ife-Ibadan Highway over ASUU strike

The ever-busy Ife-Ibadan highway was blocked again on Friday as students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Osun State, led other students in protest against the ongoing debacle between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The protest resumed as early as 07:00, with students blocking the highway around Oduduwa University, thereby creating a barrage of fire inside and outside Ile-Ife. Ilesa-Akure detained in the lock. The timetable lock at 12:00 stretched to Gbingan on the highway with motorists driving to, Ife-Ilesa-Akure in the lock.
In fact, they started yesterday, with their University of Nigeria, Nsukka, peers doing the same.

The students created a barrier on the highway using used tires and human shield while some of their leaders addressed motorists and passers-by.

Chairman, Nigeria Association of University Students (NAUS), Eruobami Ayobami, while speaking to Vanguard, said the protest would be a daily routine until the government finds a common ground with the academic union to fund university education properly.

A source also confirmed to Vanguard that hundreds of travelers forced by Ife to other parts of the Southwest, South-South and northern parts of the country were diverted to other routes.

The students also tracked down and blocked some of the adjacent routes like Ipetomodu.

Some of the travelers, especially commercial buses, were forced to pass through a town called Moro in Ife Morth Local Government Area to join Ilesa-Akure Road.
